g is for guides who help us in life
The definition of a guide is;
a person who shares the way to others, advises others especially in matters of behaviour or belief.
In your early years your family – parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles help you as your body and mind grows and develops. You learn about right and wrong and the values of your community.
In adolescence you may question everything and push boundaries but there will be guides to challenge your thinking. These may include teachers, university lecturers, managers at work, friends, church leaders and many more. A guide’s voice can also come in the form of books, videos, films or perhaps your ‘inner you’. The wise friend inside of you who is always there for you.
In the 21st century so many ideas and viewpoints are offered to you with both good and bad influences. It is for you to accept or reject them based on your personal values. Guides may challenge your viewpoint and expand your horizons. They may even modify your values. However it is your choosing, based on your personal values, that demonstrates who you are.
Your values are your compass in your journey of life.
It is against your values compass you decide; what is important to you, how do you behave and who you are as a person.
As we mature, I believe we never stop learning and we always need guides to help us. Every stage of life has new events – commitment to a partner, birth of a child, ageing parents, grandchildren, your own old age. Guides can help you to get the most out of these events and enhance the richness of your life.
You may become a guide yourself. It is a big responsibility and should be carried out with love and thought.
This post is dedicated to the loving guides who have touched your life.
