Man’s Search for Meaning

This book is a testimony to the power of hope

Viktor Frankl survived the experience of a concentration camp because he realised that there was an important task he personally needed to complete: the completion of a manuscript he had been working on. He went on to be the founder of logotherapy.

Viktor Frankl claims that you find meaning in life through;

  • work, especially if it’s both creative and aligned with your greater purpose.
  • love, which often shows itself in the service of others.
  • suffering, which is fundamental to the human experience.

Hopefully suffering will not be experienced to the degree of a concentration camp. But there are many types of suffering in every day life including loss of a loved one, disappointment at work, living in difficult relationships. All are potential opportunities to grow. read more

The Dalai Lama’s Cat

The Dalai Lama’s Cat is a funny and light hearted story of a stray kitten from the slums who goes to live with the Dalai Lama. The story is narrated by the kitten who grows into a beautiful cat. I will not say too much, not to spoil the story. There are amusing events which include many frailties humans experience. Life lessons many humans struggle with are laid bear with gentle Buddhist guidance on how to lead a better life.

Funny, light and with spiritual lessons, this makes an excellent bedtime read. I have not enjoyed a book so much in a long time. I will definitely be passing my copy to someone else to enjoy. read more

Cross Roads

Cross Roads

Author of the best-selling book The Shack, this is his second book.  It is equally heart wrenching and thought-provoking as the first book.  First published in 2012, this is the second time I have read this book.  It still maintained its impact and I found it hard to put down.

Cross Roads by WM Paul Young tells the tale of a multi –millionaire who is abundant in financial assets but whose life is lacking in family, love and healthy relationships.  It speaks for all of us who have got things wrong in life and would like to put things right.  We all have challenges in our life but the essence of who you are is how you handle those challenges. read more

The Alchemist

A fable about following your dream

First published in 1988, this book arrived in my life in June 2016 as a pointer that I needed to follow my dream and life purpose.  I was attending a self-development management course in the beautiful and enchanting place of El Escorial, where the kings of Spain go to be buried.  Over the weekend I read this book and just could not put it down.  Its messages of hope, following your dreams and inspiration fully matched the location I was reading it in.
